Gboyega Isiaka, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state has enjoined youth in the state to participate in the on-going online continuous voters’ registration, in order to encourage mass participation in subsequent elections.
GNI in a statement issued by his media office in Abeokuta, the state capital, enjoined eligible youths in the state to take advantage of the online registration exercise by enrolling in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Voters’ Register.
He noted that the youths have a great role to play in the entrenchment of democratic ideals in the state, adding that the youthful population when deployed rightly can have the biggest influences on elections in the country.
While explaining that registering to vote is a civic responsibility every adult citizen must undertake in order to promote sustainable democracy in the state and beyond, GNI added that a credible Voters’ Register is crucial to a free and fair electoral process.
“The continuous voters’ registration by INEC is an opportunity for our youth in Ogun state to stake a claim in the electoral process of this state and of course Nigeria. The registration would also amplify the credibility of our elections as the voters’ card is the power we have.”
“I therefore enjoin stakeholders in politics, religious bodies, traditional institutions, and civil society organizations to rise up to the challenge of creating awareness on processes towards the ongoing voters registration exercise.” he said.
